Final bridge building assignment

The troll didn't like that the big goat embarrassed him, so he started knocking out all the bridges that crossed his river!
Farmer Jon is the owner of this goat farm. He realized what was happening when all of his goats started getting skinny because they were running out of good grass to eat!
He overheard that we have been studying bridges in our class, and he was wondering if he could hire us to build some new SUPER strong bridges to withstand the big bad troll. He would like to know if we, as bridge experts, could build bridges that are strong enough to get the goats over the bridge - and even better if we can build bridges that the troll can't break!
What do you think? Are we up to the challenge?
Can we help the farmer out?
Oh good! Farmer Jon is so grateful for our help!
To make the building process easier, each of you will be paired up with another 'bridge expert' from the class. You and your partner will need to design a bridge that can span the 40cm gap of the river. You and your partner will be designated a team colour so that you can keep all of your money, supplies and paperwork separate from the other builders.
The farmer has agreed to pay us for our efforts, but he is running low on money these days, so here is what he can allow us:
Each pair of bridge experts will only have 20 BRIDGE BUCKS in their own team colour that they can use to buy their bridge materials from the store.
Each pair will have 3 TAPE TAXES worth 1 meter of tape that they can trade in at the Store for more tape when needed. Tape is a very valuable thing in the store, so you need to make sure that you are using it wisely, and store it on the wax paper between building days so that you can use your leftover tape from the day before!

Your Bridge Bucks, Tape Tax coupons, and leftover tape on wax paper can all be stored in your Bridge Baggie along with extra loose pieces (like popsicle sticks) during cleanup at the end of the work day. Inside your group Baggie you will also find 2 sets of Bridge Building Paperwork Reports. These reports have all of your construction paperwork where you will draw and plan out your bridge blueprint, think about what materials you wish to use, and then evaluate the successfulness of your final bridge after testing it out.
Your first step with your bridge expert partner is to read over the first page of your construction documents and decide what type of bridge elements you would like to use while designing your bridge. Below is a review of the bridge types that we have looked at during our science unit.

Remember to keep in mind that your bridge needs to try and hold all 3 of the different Billy Goats, and hopefully even the troll! (A larger weight of the teacher's choice - not photographed here).
Your next important decision will have to be what your bridge will be constructed out of. Depending on the Store in your town, different materials will probably be placed at different costs. It can get exciting when you walk into the shop, but make sure you don't spend all of your money on the first day, and be smart about what you buy because not all shops will let your return materials! The last class that did a project like this had a "bridge building" store that had some items for $1.00, $2.00, $3.00, $4.00, and some big items were even $5.00! They lucked out, the next day their store having a BIG sale and everything when down one dollar in price, and the $1.00 items were then free! But there was a catch: because it was a sale, there was no returning any items that they bought, so beware because your shop might do something similar! Here are some pictures of that store's inventory.
Once your bridge is planned and your materials are bought you are ready to start building your Billy Goat Bridges! Here are some photos from other classes who did similar projects - maybe they will help you to brainstorm ideas. Oh, and don't mind their smiley faces... They are just having so much fun while building that they couldn't help it! Have a great time building the bridges! Hope you can help Farmer Jon solve his pesky troll problems!
